It’s been a long while since we’ve had a post-workout nutrition article on the site, and it’s always important to be reminded of what we (think) we know.
I’ve linked an old post on our blog quoting CrossFit legend OPT (James Fitzgerald). OPT is a tremendous coach and well known for his scientific approach to achieving health/performance goals. If you love CrossFit and haven’t read any of his stuff, you’re missing out.
Post-Workout Nutrition Article
Why am I posting this now? A lot of people used to love the simplicity of having a post-workout shake pre-made for them at the gym. I used to bag them up and bring them in for myself, but it got really tedious after a while. With that in mind, we’ve restocked (and reformulated) the Post-Workout shake mix dispenser. We used to use the “Muscle Milk” brand protein powder, but after reviewing the ingredients in it, we decided to go with a higher quality protein powder. We changed to the NOW (Nutrition for Optimal Wellness) brand protein powder that Dr. Christopher & Dr Justin recommend, and now you can pronounce everything on the ingredient list (Microfiltered Whey Protein Isolate, Cocoa, Natural Flavors, Xanthan Gum, Xylitol, BetterStevia [Organic Stevia Extract (Leaf)], Sea Salt and Soy Lecithin.) Compare that to the old stuff…
Long story short, there’s 2 types of mix in the dispenser. One for General recovery (for 90% of us in the gym) and the other for Performance recovery (if you’re going to place in the top few in the gym in the open, you’re probably in this category). The General is a ratio of 1 carb block to 1 protein block (zone blocks). The Performance is 2 carb blocks to 1 protein block.
What’s changed other than the new protein powder? Nothing. Price is still the same (4 shakes for $5, or individually at $2 each). There’s instructions on how to use the dispenser right next to it, and there’s a little box to drop cash into so you don’t have to wait around for a trainer to get a second to open the cash box. All handy dandy for you.
If you’ve got any questions, or comments on the new mix, eMail me (address is on the right sidebar of the webpage) or catch us in the gym and let us know.
